#WhenYouInvestInPPAO: Meet Marchel
This month we’ve been proud to introduce you to 3 volunteer leaders who are providing a glimpse into the future we’re trying to create together. You won’t want to miss our final spotlight!
Meet Marchel Marcos. Planned Parenthood was there for Marchel in some of her major life moments, providing accurate sex education and compassionate care, free of shame and judgment. So when she joined our team as a Legislative & Electoral Fellow in 2019, she was proud to be involved in a movement to reimagine what society should look like.
“When we first started the fellowship, to be in a room with Black and Brown women and be around amazing, badass organizers and leaders — it changed my life,” Marchel says. “People think that this is work we’re not qualified to do. We’re living with these systems every single day, and we are absolutely the right people to be part of that decision-making process.”
PPAO is so proud of volunteer leaders like Marchel for exemplifying the culture of movement building in every way. She went on to receive our 2020 Volunteer Excellence Award and to serve in leadership roles at We Count Oregon and the Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon, but remains committed to our work, saying, “I’m a PPAO Fellow for life!”
